General Services Administration – Air Handling Improvements

Kansas City, Missouri

Stanger Industries was selected as the Design Build Contractor to provide phased construction and conversion of an approximately 44 year-old constant volume air handling system to a variable air volume type system. Our team prepared construction documents to renovate and convert the existing system to a variable air volume distribution system. The system served Government office spaces of approximately 250,000 gross square feet consisting of two floors and a basement. The existing building system was kept in operation and renovation activities required extensive project coordination with building tenants to provide “Invisible Construction”. Stanger Industries designed and installed a complete and new VAV type system to meet all mandatory codes and Government regulations. One of the most notable items about this complex project was the fact that it was completed approximately 6 months ahead of schedule.

The new VAV system included:

  • Five New 30,000 CFM Trane Air Handling Units
  • Over 100 new VAV
  • Terminal Boxes
  • New Temperature Controls
  • New Medium Pressure Distribution Ductwork
  • Upgraded AHU Electrical Service
  • New Outside Air Fans
  • New Return/Relief Fans
